How to prepare for a deep clean

Whilst regular daily or weekly cleaning is absolutely essential to maintaining your business and keeping it free of germs for employees and visitors, a deep clean either once or twice a year is also highly recommended.

The good thing is that if you use a commercial cleaning company like Atkins Gregory, we can tackle the actual cleaning part but there are several things you can do to make it easier for our cleaning operatives, and therefore we’ll be able to be more efficient.

Here is what you can do to help prepare for a deep clean with us.

Communicate with us

Communication really is key, and whilst we’re experts at cleaning, we need to get to know your business and your expectations.

Create a checklist

Whilst we have our own internal deep cleaning checklists, every business has unique requirements. We’d recommend you share a checklist with us, just in case there’s something we haven’t factored in.

Request specialist services

Before we get started it’s a good idea to discuss any specialist cleaning services you require that are outside of the scope of a regular commercial deep clean. This can include solar panel cleaning, commercial window cleaning or graffiti removal.

Arrange building access

A deep clean is best done when there are minimal staff in the building, so you will need to arrange a time for us to visit, and importantly, arrange access to the building.

Name a point of contact

We’ll need a single point of contact from someone in your organisation, or your building manager, who will be able to let us in and out of the building, and who we can let know that we’ve finished.

Tidy and declutter

To ensure we can do a thorough deep clean, it’s essential to prepare all spaces that are designated for a deep clean.

Decluttering

We’d recommend that the floors are free of boxes to allow our cleaning operatives to move freely and aren’t obstructed.

Secure confidential information

Whilst our cleaning operatives are trustworthy and fully referenced and vetted, we’d still recommend securing any confidential information to reduce the risk of it being damaged by cleaning products.

Ensure access to all areas

To ensure we’re more efficient, we’d recommend moving any heavy equipment and ensuring we have access to all areas that you would like cleaned.

Room-by-Room deep cleaning preparation

Different rooms and areas will have different preparation requirements for when we do a deep clean.

Offices

We’d recommend that all desks be tidy and free of clutter, as we will clean desks and typically won’t move paperwork or personal items. We’d also recommend that all computers are shut down, as this can be an electrical risk when cleaning solutions are involved. It’s also important to ensure that floors are clear of boxes or other obstructions, especially if we’re carrying out specialist floor cleaning.

Kitchens and breakrooms

All food and drink items, including teabags and juice, should be stored away in cupboards, and cutlery and utensils should be either in drawers or other designated areas. If you require appliances like fridges to be cleaned, these should be emptied.

Washrooms

All personal items and personal hygiene products should be removed from shared washrooms to ensure they’re not mistaken for rubbish, and you should inform us ahead if there are any issues with drainage.

Security preparation

Ahead of our visit to deep clean your business, you should think about security, including:

Inform staff

Ensure any members of staff who are likely to be present or popping into the office are aware that we’re going to be conducting a deep clean.

Keys and access codes

Ensure our members of staff have keys or access codes to areas that are usually locked, if they are required to be cleaned.
